FAQ

Do you take my insurance?

We are not participating providers in any of the insurance networks. It is best to check with your insurance provider to see if you have out-of-network benefits for acupuncture. If so, we can provide you with a coded receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Alternatively, many people use flexible medical benefits for acupuncture.

How much does it cost?

For in-person acupuncture, the initial visit, which is a longer visit and includes a comprehensive Chinese medicine evaluation as well as acupuncture is $300. Follow up visits are $150.

How long is a session?

The initial visit is 90 minutes to a bit over 2 hours, depending on the complexity.

Follow up visits are about 1 hour.

Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment to get settled so we can begin on time.

How many sessions will I need?

To optimize fertility, we recommend acupuncture once a week and in some cases twice a week, ideally for three months. It takes three months for an egg to mature from its primordial state to the point that it is ready to be ovulated. For men, sperm production also takes three months. During this time we aim to help the body to be as well regulated as possible so as to produce the healthiest eggs and sperm.

For other issues such as headaches, back pain, menopausal symptoms, digestive or other problems, treatment times are generally much shorter but it depends on the issue. At your first session, we give you a game plan.

Does it hurt?

We will adjust the thickness of the needles so it will be comfortable for you.  For most people, acupuncture is painless. You might feel a prick, sort of like plucking a hair from your eyebrows, but it's not really painful. Although people do differ a lot in their sensitivity. And women do tend to be a bit more sensitive around ovulation and their periods.

Can I do this together with fertility treatment?

Absolutely. We can do acupuncture through all stages of medical fertility treatment including Clomid, IUI, IVF, and egg freezing. In general, we do not use herbs while the patient is on fertility drugs.

Is there a certain time in my menstrual cycle when I should begin?

No. We can begin acupuncture at any point in the menstrual cycle or at any point during medical fertility treatment, though deeply regulating the system requires time. To achieve the strongest impact, it is ideal to begin acupuncture three months prior to embarking on fertility medications and procedures.

Do I need a medical diagnosis to begin?

No, a medical diagnosis is not required to begin, although we do recommend getting checked out along the way. We have been in this field for many years and are happy to refer you to the best OB/GYNs and reproductive endocrinologists and other physicians in the city.
